THE FIVE PURPOSES IN A PURPOSE DRIVEN LIFE AND FINDING YOUR PURPOSE IN CHRIST

Questions to think about

  1. What are the five purposes in a purpose driven life and how do you keep them all in balance?
  2. How can we find our purposes in Christ?

A purpose driven life is what God planned for you. When you live the five purposes, you need to keep them in balance.

The five purposes for a purpose driven life

  • You were planned for God’s pleasure and that is worship.

Love God with all your heart. The bible says that whatever you do, work at it with all your heart and not for men. Sometimes we work to please men but we are to please God and not men. Worship is a lifestyle and it doesn’t only happen in church.

  • You were formed for God’s family and that is fellowship.

Your purpose is to identify his church through fellowship. After learning to worship God the second purpose is to fellowship with others. This world is evil and many people are Christians bit they don’t have a fellowship and that is why they move from place to place in different churches.

Once you worship God, you need to get a place where to worship Him and that place is in fellowship. You can’t love your life alone. The bible says that let love be your greatest aim and so we need to love the
fellowship members even when it is difficult to do so and love them for the glory of God.

  • You were created to become like Christ.

Our purpose is to grow through discipleship. This is your destiny and purpose for your life. Let us be intellectual and be like Jesus.

  • We were shaped for serving God.

You need to enter ministry and your purpose is to show love for others through ministry. You were not created to eat and breathe but to serve through ministry.

We were created to add life. Start identifying where you can serve most. Regardless of the jobs and busy schedules that we have, we should still serve in ministry. God gave us talents and skills to serve Him and others.

  • You were made for a mission, to introduce others to God.

Matthew 28:17-20– Go and make disciples. We are to share God’s message to His people and that is evangelism. You have to evangelize the people of God. The mission Jesus had on earth is now our mission because we are the body of Christ.

What is that mission God is calling you to? Your mission is to introduce people to God. To ignore God’s mission is disobedience. God holds you responsible for the non believers around you. We need to come out and do mission and evangelize people. We are Jesus’ agents in the world. As agents of God we need to do something. Sharing the gospel is the greatest kindness in the world.

The consequences of your mission lasts forever but the consequences of your job won’t last forever. Your mission gives your life meaning. The only truth is that the kingdom of God is going to last because everything will fade away. We have to live purpose driven lives by doing the five purposes.

How can you find your purpose in Christ?

One of the last instructions that Jesus gave the disciples before He went to heaven was that they are to make disciples of all nations. This is the great commission. Where does the great commission require you to go?

Proverbs 3:6 says, “In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”

We always ask, what is my purpose in Christ? There are many ways where we can find our purpose in Christ.

  • Keeping yourself in God’s word.

Psalm 119How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By keeping in God’s word. Keep yourself in God’s word and you will not run astray.

The more familiar we are with the bible, the more we shall be able to know the snares in our paths. It is a lot better for us to read the word everyday. Study a chapter per day.

In Matthew 4, Jesus dealt with the devil’s temptations through the word because the word was in His heart. If we want to make wise choices, we need to be familiar with scripture. The word of God is living. Jeremiah says that the word of God is like a hammer.

Surround yourself with wise counsellor.

Proverbs 11:14 says, “Where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.”

Proverbs 13:10 says, “By pride comes nothing but strife, but with the well advised is wisdom.”

Proverbs 15:22 says, “Without counsel, plans go awry, but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.”

We need counsellors in our lives. We need to be mentored as we find purpose in our lives. Get counsellors for our children.

Even when in sorrow, you need people. Community is vital because we need each other. Advisors help fill the gaps we miss. Not every guide is valuable. Friends are essential as long as they don’t tell us what we want to hear.

1 Peter 5:5 says, “Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

Submit to your elders and be humble. We need one another especially the younger generation. We are proud and think we know a lot more than others. We don’t always have all the answers and occasionally we need the wisdom of God.

  • Pray for wisdom and discernment

James 1:5-6, if we are lacking wisdom, we need to pray to God. Solomon asked God for wisdom. Wisdom is prosperity and wealth. All decisions we make have consequences and we need wisdom. All we need to do is to ask for wisdom from God and when we ask for it, He will give it to us.

Prioritize doing God’s will.

God has willed everyone something to do. Sometimes we are selective in doing God’s will. What we need in providing God’s will is to know what He has purpose for us here on earth.

As we turn our attention to living rightly, the things we are worried about will plan themselves out. We are not following what God wants us to do and we need to follow God’s will.

Pay attention to your passions.

What is your passion in ministry? Paul was passionate about reaching the gentiles with Jesus’ message to make sure that they receive salvation. Where do you put your passion concerning ministry? Most ministries don’t form because people want to start a ministry but they spring from a desire to solve a problem.

There is what God has equipped us with. We need to utilize our passions for ministry. When we serve we should serve where our passions are. When you serve, you discover your calling. Let God lead you into your calling. Once you do your passion, you are bringing life and light into the world that is around you.

Ask yourself, what is my passion and what have I been doing in relation to my passion? When you are Christ like you put on the character of Jesus. The Spirit of God is there to transform us from the inside out.

Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”  We need to know that God intends to make us more like Jesus Christ. God wants us to know Him.

1 Timothy 2:3-4, God wants all people to be saved and come to the knowledge of truth. If you want to know Christ, you have to know Him through the word.

If you have been surrounded by false pastors and false prophets, you need to surround yourself with wise counsellors.
