TIME FOR A SHIFT IN THE MARKETPLACE

24 January 2023

The purpose of visions and dreams is to solve problems. God’s purpose is to give us His Spirit to speak in tongues, to stand in the gap and also to have visions and dreams. 2 Timothy tells us to be strong in the grace of Christ Jesus. Grace is the gift of being able to do what you can’t naturally do.

Mission consciousness at work is lacking. We Christians think that the work place is only for making money. Let the money be a bi-product. Even in business we are always separating the work we do from the God we serve.

Before you enter the meeting, do you ask the Holy Spirit for wisdom? Before you type that letter, do you ask God for the content to put in? In your workplace do people ask you to pray for them? There is no difference between the spiritual aspect and the work you do. We look at spiritual things as proclaiming and acting in faith but God also worked. If God worked, doesn’t it make work spiritual.

Genesis 31:2-6, This shows a time when God filled a man with His spirit and it was not to preach but to work. Whether you are self-employed, your business is to solve problems. If you can solve the problem, they will look for you.

Romans 12:1-2, We have to present ourselves as living sacrifices everyday to the Lord. There is a time for us to shift. What is the will of God in our workplaces? We need to know so that we know what is good and acceptable. Let us not be like those who take bribes or sleep with their bosses but let us be like Daniel who didn’t defile himself. The meetings Daniel held were with sorcerers but He didn’t defile himself and he understood the will of God. The more your mind is renewed, the more your life is transformed. There is a lot of information in the world but we have to choose what we listen to and follow.

Mark 6:3 says, “Is this not the carpenter, the Son of Mary, and brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And are not His sisters here with us?” So they were offended at Him.” Jesus also worked and He was a carpenter. In Israel, at the age of 12 children are taught to work.

Romans 12:3 says, “For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.” We should not to conform to this world. Don’t think of yourself highly.

Philippians 4:13 says, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. Some of our workplaces are demanding.

Colossians 3:16 says, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”

Let the word of Christ dwell in us. As we are working, the word has to dwell in us so that we do not conform. Whatever you do in word and action do it unto the Lord in your work and business.

The marketplace is a mission place. Let people see your good works and glorify God in heaven. As we continue in the year, let us not separate what we do our businesses from serving God. Your offering a service or solving a problem is spiritual. Jesus made furniture and He had a place to stay. Some people want to imagine that Jesus was a poor man.

God has given us gifts so that we may equip the saints for ministry. Train the saints so that the church maybe built. Prayer meetings and bible study are only rehearsals. The gifts are there.

Ephesians 4:11-12 says, “And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ.”

Every time we sell a service or product it is a spiritual act and that is why the bible doesn’t like people who give wrong scales because they will be judged.

Genesis 12:7 says, “Then the LORD appeared to Abram and said, “To your descendants I will give this land.” And there he built an altar to the LORD, who had appeared to him.”

Genesis 13:2 says, “Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold.”

Genesis 24:35 says, “The LORD has blessed my master greatly, and he has become great; and He has given him flocks and herds, silver and gold, male and female servants, and camels and donkeys.” Abraham was a worker, a herdsman and an employer.

Acts 7:22 says, “And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and deeds.”

1 Kings 19:18-20, Elisha was found ploughing the land with twelve oxen before he followed Elijah.

Amos 1:1 says, “The words of Amos, who was among the sheep breeders of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.”

The bible was written by working people for working people. Daniel served three kings as a policy maker.

God can create your source of income from anywhere. The work we do is not separate or physical for this world but part of our assignments. Movies portray business people as those who are bad or those who murder. It is good to have a charity but the work you do is also spiritual. If God is spirit and He worked, then work is spiritual.

When you become mission conscious everything you do in word and deed do unto the Lord, you will be surprised how God will bless you. Men will disappoint you because you will work and they promote another and so we need to work for the Lord. A king can’t sit on His throne and sees the value you are putting in to honour Him and he does nothing.

It is time for a shift. This year when you are working in all the work you are doing in ministry, in business and even at home, do it as you are doing unto the Lord. You will see business coming from the Lord. All kings are attracted to those who honour them.

When we read the book of Job, we learn that Job was a man who was honest and in whatever he did, He did for God.

Chris Ngoma said, “Wherever you work, you are working part time for your employer and full time for Jesus.”
