THE REDEMPTIVE CALL OF KING DAVID

script. ref. 1 Samuel 17:1-11 :

The Israelites were afraid of the Philistines because of their disobedience to their leader King Saul. There was a battle between the Israelites and Philistines. Goliath a Philistine who was a giant & challenged the Israelites to a battle.

God sought out a man after His own heart. So God sought out David. David’s redemptive call was to save or deliver the Israelites from their enemies the Philistines and also to establish a home for them.

1 Samuel 13:14 : King Saul was given instructions by God that he disobeyed and because of that, his rule came to an end and the Lord found someone else to replace him and rule over the people of Israel.

1 Samuel 16:13 : The spirit of the Lord left Saul and sat on David and he was anointed by prophet Samuel. God also gave David gifts like the gift of music. He played music that was acceptable in heaven.

1 Samuel 16:23: God calls us and gives us gifts to help us serve in a better way. This gift of divine music helped David to serve in the palace. Whenever he played King Saul found peace.

1 Samuel 18:5: David never lost any battle. The Lord gave David this gift of victory over his enemies. God gave David the gift of faith, He believed in the power of the name of the Lord.

David believed in the mighty power of the God he served. He had faith that God would help him defeat Goliath just like God had helped him in the past. He trusted in God and he had faith in Him

2 Samuel 7:8-10: God calls David and promises to make him a great man, that Israel will have a mighty man so that His people of Israel will have a home and not be disturbed. The redemptive call was to save/deliver the Israelites from their enemies the Philistines. And also to establish a home for them. When God calls us, He gives us instructions. David’s call was to establish a home for Israelites. God has a purpose or reason for calling a person.
