DEALING WITH OUR WEAKNESSES

Scripture Reference: Judges 16:1-3

Introduction:

Weakness: A weakness is a strong liking, usually for something that might have unpleasant effects.  It is something bad and in the eyes of God, it is called SIN. God hates weaknesses for they separate man from God.

Strength: This is something good and it is called RIGHTEOUSNESS. it brings man in close relationship with God.

Dealing: In this context, this is trading off something bad for good.

Hebron: Means fellowship or association.

Deeper understanding of weaknesses:   For all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God. Romans 3:23

The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23

Examples of weaknesses: Evil thoughts such as; sexual immorality, murder, idolatry, greed, malice, deceit, forgiveness, envy slander, arrogance and folly. Mark 7:21-23

INSIGHT:

To Samson, his weaknesses were women and alcohol. Our enemy, the devil tempts us in our weaknesses. When Samson yielded to his weakness of women, his enemies got to know and gathered to steal, kill and destroy him. Judges 16:2

This is what happens when we yield to our weaknesses. We give the enemy an opportunity to come steal, kill and destroy us.

With Holy Spirit guidance, Samson realized this and laid low. With Holy Spirit conviction, Samson went into deep repentance of immorality without leaving any detail. He took up the burden of his weakness and carried it on his shoulders to the top of the hill that faces Hebron. (fellowship with God). That hill is Mount Calvary. Judges 16:3

What Samson did with his weakness, perfectly portrays what Jesus did on the cross of Calvary. Only that Jesus was without sin. He took up our infirmities and carried our diseases onto the tree and by His wounds we are healed. Matthew 8:17

For this purpose, Jesus suffered, bled and died on the cross of Calvary to purchase our weaknesses and give us His Righteousness so that we can have a relationship with God.

Psalm 55:22: Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous fall.

Jesus is inviting us today to deal with our weaknesses by taking them to the cross of Calvary in exchange for His Righteousness, withholding nothing.

Reflection: What are your weaknesses?

For today we shall repent into our evil thinking in Mark 7:21-23 withholding nothing for ourselves, families, church, community and the nation.

Shalom!

God bless you.
